Niamh Haran
today is thinking of nobody
the man is always walking
rain mac and combat boots
over superdrug maccy d’s
past royal mail’s delivery office
for a pint at tally ho he leaves
his umbrella in the doorway big
golf one like my dead grandad’s
I wonder if his umbrella stick hurt
what fingernails were used
on same pair of nail scissors
he used to trim his beard he smiles
why thank you for your concern
there’s nothing more romantic
than politeness in the rain
nothing more willing than pavements
that hold us the man takes six steps
to the bar says today’s a special day
I even shaved for this
